Bairnsdale family man Tim Bull will contest the seat of Gippsland East at the Victorian State Election after winning The Nationals preselection today.
Mr Bull, 43, is married with three young children and works for the Australian Sports Commission’s Active After-school Communities program.
Mr Bull is heavily involved in local sport and has been a strong community advocate for improving services for children with disabilities in the region.
“I believe our region has been short-changed by a Brumby Labor Government that is focussed on Melbourne and that has failed to deliver the essential services for regional areas like East Gippsland,” Mr Bull said.
“I’m looking forward to the challenge of fighting for Gippsland East’s fair share of government funding in key areas such as health services, education and improving community safety.
“The only way you can achieve results in politics is to be part of a strong team that is committed to achieving results for people who live outside the city.”
Leader of The Nationals Peter Ryan congratulated Mr Bull and said he would make an outstanding member of the Victorian Parliament.
“As a born and bred East Gippslander, Tim has the passion for the region and a thorough understanding of local issues,” Mr Ryan said.
“I’m looking forward to working closely with Tim and his campaign team to develop positive plans for the future of the East Gippsland region.
“East Gippsland needs a strong representative in State Parliament and I’m confident that Tim will deliver if he’s successful at the state election.”
State President of The Nationals Robert Mitchell said the party was pleased with the preselection result and would fully support Mr Bull’s campaign.
“The Nationals is the only party which is fully focussed on representing the needs of regional areas and we have a strong team of MPs in Gippsland including Peter Ryan, Peter Hall, Russell Northe and Darren Chester,” Mr Mitchell said.
“There’s no doubt in my mind that East Gippsland would be better served by a team player than a so-called independent who continues to support the Brumby Government regardless of the consequences for regional and rural Victorians.
“The Nationals have a proven track record of achieving results for regional communities and Tim would be a great addition to our committed team in the Parliament.”
