Target 585

The Nationals launched Target 585 to force the Brumby Government to fully spend the $585 million promised to regional Victoria under the Regional Infrastructure Development Fund (RIDF).

RIDF money is aimed to help stimulate economic development in regional Victoria. Grants help fund tourism initiatives, community facilities and local infrastructure such as bridges, roads and rail lines.

The RIDF budget has now grown to $611 but the money is being drastically underspent. The government has twice been urged by its own parliamentary committee to fast track spending.

John Brumby and Regional and Rural Development Minister Jacinta Allan are holding back valuable job-creating RIDF dollars.

Labor must honour its commitment to country Victorians and guarantee the total allocation will be spent in regional Victoria by the mid 2010 deadline.
