Additional funding for Victorian flood-affected communities

Additional support will be made available for flood-affected communities under Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements (NDRRA), Commonwealth Attorney-General Nicola Roxon and Deputy Premier and Minister for Police and Emergency Services Peter Ryan announced today.

Flood-affected businesses, primary producers and not-for-profit organisations in Shepparton and Moira will now be able to access up to $25,000 for clean-up and recovery grants while 14 flood-affected local government areas (LGAs) will have access to low-interest concessional loans of up to $200,000.

“While this emergency is still developing and further areas may be affected, governments recognise the need for swift and effective action to help communities and families recover from these devastating floods,” Ms Roxon said.

“The clean-up and recovery grants will help businesses, including farm businesses, resume trading as soon as possible by funding clean-up activities, replacement of damaged equipment, stock and other general repairs.”

Mr Ryan said the latest flood support came on top of existing joint Commonwealth-Victorian government funding already announced and in place.

The 14 LGAs affected by the floods and able to access low-interest loans are Alpine, Benalla, East Gippsland, Greater Bendigo, Greater Shepparton, Indigo, Macedon Ranges, Mildura, Moira, Mount Alexander, Strathbogie, Towong, Wangaratta and Wodonga.

“It is important to ensure that people who are genuinely in need receive adequate support to help them resume a normal life as quickly as possible,” Mr Ryan said.

“Both governments are committed to helping flood-stricken communities recover, and this additional funding will give an important boost to eligible small to medium businesses, primary producers and non-profit organisations affected by the floods.

“Applications for these grants can be made through Rural Finance Corporation Victoria,” Mr Ryan said.

The new measures are in addition to the emergency relief assistance and emergency re-establishment grants for eligible Victorians under the Personal Hardship Assistance Program, which is jointly funded by the Commonwealth and Victorian Governments.
