BOARD TO OVERSEE MILDURA’S RIVERFRONT MASTER PLAN IMPLEMENTATION

* * - Tuesday, August 16, 2011

Wednesday 10 August 2011

Mildura’s riverfront and marina development moved a step closer today with the appointment of a Project Control Board.

Deputy Premier and Minister for Regional and Rural Development Peter Ryan said the ministerially-appointed board was a key component of the governance arrangements to deliver Stage One of the Mildura Riverfront Precinct project.

“The board will provide a mechanism to ensure the Mildura Riverfront Master Plan (MRMP) is delivering the objectives of all key stakeholders,” Mr Ryan said.

“Importantly, it will give the Mildura community the opportunity to set the direction for the project’s implementation as the board will provide direction to the development authority that will have ultimate responsibility for implementation.”

Membership of the board has been confirmed as follows, with Regional Development Victoria providing the Chair and Secretariat support:

Member for Mildura Peter Crisp said developing the Mildura riverfront was a key priority for the community which the Victorian Coalition Government was supporting through a $14.5 million economic development package.

“The Mildura riverfront and marina project will boost the local economy and promote tourism growth across the Sunraysia region,” Mr Crisp said.

“Significant progress has been achieved with the declaration of the Mildura riverfront and marina development as a project of state significance and $3 million towards the Mildura Airport passenger terminal upgrade and $5 million towards the river parklands project already provided.

“Other components of the development package include the Langtree Avenue connection and a contribution towards the Dockside conference centre and resort.

“The $14.5 million economic development package for Mildura is part of the government’s
$1 billion Regional Growth Fund that will create new prosperity, more opportunities and better quality of life for
Victorians in regional areas,” Mr Crisp said.
