Deputy Premier and Minister for Regional and Rural Development Peter Ryan announced today that up to 50 new jobs would be created at True Foods’ Maryborough manufacturing plant as part of an $850,000 expansion into crumpet production.
Mr Ryan said the Victorian Coalition Government would contribute $100,000 towards the Crumpet Line Relocation project from the $1 billion Regional Growth Fund.
“This exciting development will further secure the future of True Foods in Maryborough and build on the success of its existing operations in the community,” Mr Ryan said.
“The establishment of a crumpet production line will offer greater diversity for its Maryborough plant and enhance the long term sustainability of the business.”
Mr Ryan said the establishment of a crumpet production line in Maryborough would offer significant strategic benefits for the company.
“Demand for crumpets peaks in winter, providing a strategic counterpoint for the company’s core business activities such as flat bread wrap production, which peak in summer,” Mr Ryan said.
“This will help True Foods better balance demand for labour and will allow it to offer greater certainty to production staff, increasing the permanency of the company’s workforce.
“The expansion will also build upon the established strengths of the local economy and labour market in manufacturing, while expanding and diversifying into new sectors and providing added value through processing of local agricultural production.”
Mr Ryan said the relocation of True Foods from Melbourne in 2011 had been a true success story for the company and for the local community.
“The initial relocation of business activities occurred well ahead of schedule and the company now employs more than 130 full-time staff,” Mr Ryan said.
Mr Ryan said the Coalition Government was committed to working with communities to build jobs, create growth and better quality of life for regional and rural Victorians.
“The Coalition Government’s flagship $1 billion Regional Growth Fund is currently supporting more than 570 projects worth in excess of $460 million across Victoria,” Mr Ryan said.
