Deputy Premier and Minister for Regional and Rural Development Peter Ryan has called for
nominations from Shepparton for the 2013 Regional Achievement & Community Awards.
Mr Ryan, the patron of the event, said the awards were a highly anticipated event in Victoria,
in honour of the significant contribution that organisations, communities and individuals make
right across regional and rural areas.
“Since its creation in 2002, the Regional Achievement & Community Awards has offered a
fantastic opportunity to increase the profile of regional Victoria as a productive environment
for business and industry development,” Mr Ryan said.
Mr Ryan said the Victorian Coalition Government was proud to sponsor two awards, the
Regional Victoria Living Expo Business Achievement Award and the Regional Victoria Living
Expo Leadership and Innovation Award.
“The Regional Victoria Living Expo Business Achievement Award acknowledges successful
businesses that are providing opportunities for regional growth, productivity, leadership,
training and employment,” Mr Ryan said.
“The Regional Victoria Living Expo Leadership and Innovation Award acknowledges role
models who through their leadership, innovation and driving force pave the way for others to
follow in successful careers or community ventures.”
Mr Ryan said another key objective of the awards was to promote regional Victoria as a great
place to establish a home, and take up employment, business and education opportunities.
“The Coalition Government showcases the benefits of living in regional Victoria through such
initiatives as the Good Move campaign and the Regional Victoria Living Expo,” Mr Ryan said.
“This year’s expo attracted 9,500 Melburnians interested in making the move to country
Victoria – and these awards provide another opportunity to promote regional living.
“Building on the strengths of the regions and maintaining growth will not only benefit regional
Victoria but the whole state.”
The 2013 Regional Achievement & Community Awards will be presented in Bendigo in
October this year.
